A coach at a football (or soccer for some) practice told a group of 8-9 year-old boys: “those are girlie push-ups!” (and not as a way to compliment the awesomeness of their physical dexterity, mind you).
Fortunately he is NOT my child’s coach.
In the car, coming back home, I told my child about the incident. The answer? “It is not like he doesn’t have a wife or a daughter! Why did he say that?????”
I want to create a guide of gentle strategies to put in the hands of helping people, of children, of teachers, of interpreters, of counselors… a guide of tips to react in those teachable moments opening doors, leaving the impact of the aggression behind.
